TutorConnect
Project Overview
The Product
Product Duration
Design a responsive website that enables tutors to list their services and parents to search for and book time with tutors. The target audience of TutorConnect is parents with children in need of tutoring grades K-12.
I began to work on this project in March of 2024 and have completed it over the course of a month. I dedicated approximately 20 hours a week to completing TutorConnect.
Project Vision
Challenges
Eliminate education accessibility barriers to allow parents of varying demographics to find qualified tutors.
Create a minimalistic UI that can be understood by all users regardless of internet literacy.
TutorConnect is a responsive website that allows any user to search for tutors and book appointments. For this project, I created a concise platform in both desktop and mobile form which streamlines the appointment booking process with a clear interaction flow.
I conducted user research before wireframing in order to find pain points that could be addressed by my designs. Before conducting user research, I assumed that finding and booking a tutor would be a simple process for most adults if they were aware of a website that could aid them in this task. After my research I realized that individuals of varying demographics did not possess equivalent internet literacy which could impact some users experience finding and booking a tutor.
User Research: Summary
User Research: Pain Points
1. Internet Literacy
2. Qualifications
3. Time
Individuals of varying demographics do not possess equivalent internet literacy. I counteracted this issue by making my UI cohesive and concise to allow for easy comprehension.
When booking tutors, parents worry that their the tutors have the correct qualifications and effective study plans. I assuaged this concern by providing the tutors’ qualification information on the homepage and about page of the website
Parents are often busy with work, multiple children, after school activities, and household duties. For this reason, I made the user journey simple and quick.
Persona: Kim
Problem statement:
Kim is a single mother of twins boys, age 10 who works as a waitress. With limited time and support, she needs hiring a tutor to be simple.
Overview:
Education: High School Diploma
Hometown: Tampa, Florida

Quote:
“I just don’t have a lot of time between work and the boys’ sports, I just need some help, need things to be simpler.”
Goals:

Frustrations:

User Journey Map:
Throughout the process of creating Kim’s user journey map, I realized that Kim was feeling overwhelmed with the task of finding a qualified tutor for her sons. To assuage these feelings, I talked Kim through signing into to the website, and the process of searching and booking a tutor. I recognized that the cohesive UI made the user journey seamless and Kim was able to book Sarah as an English tutor for her sons with minimal instruction. Once the appointments were made, Kim felt relief that the task was complete.
